October 29, 2016: Copperstate Fly-in at Falcon Field

Copperstate Fly-in, October 29, 2016 Since its first event in 1973, the Copperstate Fly-In has been bringing together aviation enthusiasts in the southwest United States. This year the fly-in moved from Casa Grnde to Falcon Field in Mesa.

Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress N9323Z Sentimental Journey, Falcon Field, April 28, 2013 The Commemorative Air Force's Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress Sentimental Journey N9323Z and North American SNJ-5 Texan N3246G made revenue flights from their base at Falcon Field on the morning of Sunday, April 28.

June 16, 2012: Night shoot at the Arizona Wing of the CAF

Night shoot at the Arizona Wing of the CAF, June 16, 2012 The Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force hosted a gtoup of Arizona Aviation Photographers for a night shoot at Falcon Field on June 16, 2012. The CAF staff graciously moved two Mig-15s, a North American P-51D Mustang, and a Stearman N2S onto the flightline for the photographers.

Two Goodyear F2G Corsairs that competed in the 1949 Thompson Trophy Race were reunited for the first time in sixty-two years at the Commemorative Air Force ramp at Falcon Field, Mesa, Arizona on December 27, 2011. F2G-1 N5588N Race 57 and F2G-2 N5577N Race 74 were brought together for an air-to-air photo shoot over the Superstition Mountains. Race 57 has just undergone ten and a half months of restoration.

September 29, 2011: F2G-2 BuNo 88463 NX5577N Race 74 at Falcon Field

F2G-2 BuNo 88463 NX5577N, Falcon Field, September 28, 2011 Bob Odegaard has restored Cook Cleland's former racing mount, F2G-1 BuNo 88463 N5577N Race #74 to airworthy condition for Tom Ungurean of Ohio. Odegaard began its restoration for static display at the Crawford Auto Aviation Museum in Cleveland, Ohio in 2000, but funding dried up and it was purchased by Tom Ungurean. It has been restored in the blue and white colors that it wore at the 1949 Thompson Trophy Race. It was displayed at the EAA show in Oshkosh in July and at the Reno Air Races in September. Following its appearance at the Reno Air Races, Race 74 flew to Falcon Field in Tempe, Arizona and parked on the Commemorative Air Force ramp.

April 2, 2011: Third Annual Falcon Field Open House

Third Annual Falcon Field Open House, April 2, 2011 Falcon Field marked its seventieth anniversary with an open house. A wide variety of aircraft were placed on display for the public to see up close.

Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon N7670C Attu Warrior, March 28, 2011 Lockheed PV-2 Harpoon N7670C Attu Warrior visited the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force in March 2011.

February 18, 2011: Curtiss SB2C Helldiver N92879 at Falcon Field

Curtiss SB2C Helldiver N92879 The only airworthy Curtiss SB2C-5 Helldiver N92879 made an overnight stop at the Arizona Wing of the Commenorative Air Force at Falcon Field, Arizona on February 17, 2011. It continued on its way to Texas the following morning. It was returning to its home base following Tailhook Legacy practice at Naval Air Station Lemoore, California the previous weekend.

November 13, 2010: Gathering of Legends

Gathering of Legends, November 13, 2010 The Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force hosted the third annual Gathering of Legends at Falcon Field on Saturday, November 13. The keynote speaker was Air Force Colonel Roger Parrish, a veteran of 133 missions over Viet Nam in Republic F-105 Thunderchiefs and McDonnell-Douglas F-4 Phantom IIs. Following the keynote address, the public got the opportunity to meet about forty veteran airmen from World War II, the Korean War, the Viet Nam War, and Desert Storm. The veterans included two Tuskeegee Airmen and four WW-II aces.

April 16, 2006: Warbirds at Falcon Field

Warbirds at Falcon Field, April 16, 2006 On Saturday, April 16, I visited Falcon Field near Mesa. It is home to the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force. North American B-25H Mitchell Barbie III and Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress Liberty Belle were visiting Falcon Field.
